Resolution No. 2009-10
On February 17, 2009 the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2009-10 providing that a Manual of Acceptable Plantings be maintained by the City Clerk.
MANUAL OF ACCEPTABLE PLANTINGS
(Adopted February 17, 2009)
I. Trees:
The following is a list of acceptable trees:
- Large Trees. The following large trees shall be used where there is an area for plant and root spread and well-drained soil:
- Live oak (Ouercus virginiana).
- Laurel oak (Quercus laurifolia).
- Red maple Acer rubrum).
- Bald cypress (Taxodium distichium).
- Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis).
- Magnolia or Southern Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora).
- Shumard oak (Quercus shumardii).
- Sweet gum (Liquidambar styraciflua).
- Florida elm (Ulmus Americana floridana).
- Carolina ash (Fraxinus caroliniana).
- Mockernut hickory (Carya alba).
- Pignut hickory (Carya glabra).
- Hackberry or Sugarberry (Celtis laevigata).
- Red Mulberry (Morus rubra).
- Black gum (Nyssa sylvatica).
- Long leaf pine (Pinus palustris).
- Water oak (Quercus nigra).
- Chinese evergreen elm (Ulmus parvifolia).
- Winged elm (Ulmus alata).
- American Elm (Ulmus Americana).
- Cedar elm (Ulmus crassifolia).
- Loblolly bay (Gordonia lasianthus).
- Southern Florida Slash pine (Pinus elliottii var. densa).
- Slash pine (Pinus elliottil).
- Loblolly pine (Pinus taeda).
- Southern Red Oak (Quercus falcate).
- Swamp tupelo (Nyssa sylvatica var. biflora).

- Medium Trees. The following medium trees shall be used in areas where there is insufficient area for large trees and where there is well-drained soil:
- Purple orchid tree (Bauhinia purpurea).
- Hong Kong orchid tree (Bauhinia x blakeana).
- White orchid tree (Bauhinia variegate "Candida").
- Pecan (Carva illinoinensis).
- Golden-shower (Cassia fistula).
- Seagrape (Cassia fistula).
- Geiger-tree (Cordia sebestena).
- Persimmon (Ciospoyros virginiana).
- Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana).
- Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica).
- Blolly (Guapira discolor).
- Dahoon holly (Ilex cassine).
- American holly (Ilex opaca).
- Jacaranda (Jacaranda mimosifolia).
- Southern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana).
- Eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana).
- Southern golden rain tree (Koelreuteria bipinnata).
- Golden rain tree (Koelreuteria elegans).
- Natchez crape myrtle (Lagerstroemia "Natchez").

- Bottlebrush (Callistemon citrinus).
- Weeping bottlebrush (Callistemon viminalis).
- Scrub hickory (Carya floridana).
- Chinquapin (Castanea pumila).
- Eastern redbud (Cercis Canadensis).
- Fringetree (Chionanthus virginicus).
- White Geiger tree (Cordia boissieri).
