The West Melbourne Police Department is dedicated to preventing crime, apprehending criminals, servicing the community in an outstanding manner, and expediting the flow of traffic in a safe, calm manner.
The West Melbourne Police Department traces its roots back to 1959 shortly after the City was created. Today our Department has 52 sworn officers and 10 professional staff members. Together we are responsible for the protection and safety of West Melbourne's 25,385 residents as well as the many visitors that come and go through our city every day.

The West Melbourne Police Department is accredited through the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA). To be accredited we had to come into compliance with over 260 Commission approved standards, mostly relating to life, health and safety. The Department officially obtained accreditation status on June 22, 2016 and we were reaccredited in February 2020.
