The City of West Melbourne is considering applying to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for Disaster Recovery from Hurricane Irma. A total of $85,819,653 is being made available through a competitive application process to local governments located within the forty-eight (48) counties impacted by Hurricane Irma.
These funds must be used for potential projects that meet the following threshold criteria:
Additional information regarding the range of activities that may be undertaken will be provided at the public hearing. In developing an application for submission to DEO, the City must plan to minimize displacement of persons as a result of planned CDBG activities. In addition, the City is required to develop a plan to assist displaced persons.
The public hearing to receive citizen views concerning the community's housing, economic and other community development needs will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at 6:30 PM or as soon as possible thereafter during a regular City Council meeting to be held at the Judge T. Mitchell Barlow Council Chambers at the Veterans Memorial Complex, 2285 Minton Road, West Melbourne, Florida 32904. The City’s CDBG Citizen Advisory Task Force (CATF) will meet to discuss the project on August 14, 2019, at 1:00 PM at the Judge T. Mitchell Barlow Council Chambers at the Veterans Memorial Complex, 2285 Minton Road, West Melbourne, Florida 32904
