Providing exceptional police services and taking a leadership role in building community partnerships are a top priority for the West Melbourne Police Department. History

The West Melbourne Police Department traces its roots back to 1959 shortly after the City was created. Today our department has 48 sworn officers and 10 support staff. Together we are responsible for the protection and safety of West Melbourne's 21,360 residents as well as the many visitors that come and go through our city every day.

Accreditation

The West Melbourne Police Department applied for Accreditation status in August 2014 through the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA). To be accredited we had to come into compliance with over 260 Commission approved standards, mostly relating to life, health and safety.

On June 22, 2016 our Department appeared before the full Commission (comprised of Judges, Police Chiefs, Sheriff’s and administrative personnel) where the status of an accredited agency was conferred. View the final report (PDF) of our full compliance assessment to the Commission.
