There is a Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) located along three primary business corridors (Wickham Road, Ellis Road, and New Haven Avenue). There are portions of the CRA that are within the West Melbourne City limits and portions with unincorporated Brevard County so this CRA is a unique partnership between the County and the City. The purpose is to stimulate economic development and provide funding for community-improvement projects.
The agency for this special district is called the West Melbourne-Brevard County Joint Community Redevelopment Agency and both governments are committed to economic development including job creation, increased occupancy of commercial rental units, and private-sector development within the CRA. The Agency will operate as a multi-decade cooperative partnership.
The Agency’s long-term development objectives include roadway and infrastructure improvements to enable sustainable commercial utilization of parcels within the CRA, as well as partnerships with developers to promote aesthetic enhancement along the City’s main gateways.
